Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) which may
help you with information you need. If you have further questions,
email us by clicking here.

Q What are the ward visiting times at the EOC?
A Visiting times for both Oaks and Derby ward are between 3-8pm. If you wish to visit outside of these times please contact the hospital on 01372 735 800 prior to visiting, as you may be refused.

Q I am coming into hospital for an operation, and am concerned about MRSA, can you give me more information?
A At the EOC, all Patients are screened for MRSA at Pre Assessment. Alcohol hand wash facilities are provided in all areas in the Hospital, which staff, patients and visitors alike are strongly advised to use, to combat cross infection. We are proud to say that these and other precautions have led to the Centre being 100% cross infection free.

Q What arrangements are made for Privacy? Do you have single sex accommodation?
A Our hospital has two main wards of 27 beds, made up of single sex bays and a few single rooms. Each bay and each single room has its own shower and toilet.

Q Should I bring my portable television into hospital?
A At the EOC, you have access to your own personal TV, radio and telephone at your bedside, called Patientline. You can watch the TV all day for £3.50, 3 days for £10 and 5 days for £15, along with 24 hr radio. Outgoing calls cost 10p per minute.  Note that incoming calls are charged at a Premium rate.

Q How do I recognise the nursing staff on the wards?
A

At the EOC, the wards are run by the Senior Nursing Staff, called Advanced Practitioners, who have had specialised training which enables them to take on many of the roles which have previously been done by Medical Staff. Advanced Practitioners can be identified by their navy blue scrubs, whilst Qualified Practitioners have royal blue scrubs, whilst Health Care Assistants wear light blue scrubs. The matron wears Pink Top and Black trousers. (Scrubs are loose fitting trousers and tunic top which enable the staff to work without hindrance and with dignity at all times!)

Q I am coming into hospital for an operation, can i keep flowers or plants on the ward?
A At the EOC, we do not allow flowers or plants on our wards due to health and safety issues and the risk of infection. Unfortunately, any flowers delievered to the wards will be refused or relatives will be asked to take them away.
Q Can i bring children to my Orthopaedic appointments?
A At the EOC, we do not allow children to attend orthopaedic appointments with patients or visit the pre-theatre waiting area on the day of surgery; patients will need to make childcare arrangements prior to visits. The EOC welcomes children onto the ward during visiting hours, 3-8pm.
