The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) are delighted to announce that their next Walk in the Park will take place on Sunday 28th June 2015 at Bourne Hall in Ewell, Surrey. The last orthopaedic walk took place on the 30th June 2013 at Bourne Hall and the charity was delighted to see 345 patients registered to do the 1 mile walk, who were also accompanied by friends, family and their dogs. The walk was also generously supported by 100’s of other patients and together we helped raise an incredible £60,000 for the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation.
The very first walk was organised in the mid 1990’s, the British Orthopaedic Association set up a charity to raise money for Orthopaedic Research. Around the country, Orthopaedic departments organised Fundraising Walks. The first Orthopaedic Walk at Nonsuch Park was held in 1997. Since then the Orthopaedic Walks have been held bi-annually and money raised has been used to support national projects organised through the British Orthopaedic Association and the local Orthopaedic Departments.
The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation are hoping that the walk on the 28th June 2015 at Bourne Hall in Ewell will be popular again and hope to see some familiar faces of our regular walkers and look forward to welcoming the new comers. The 1 mile walk will again be around the beautiful park and ponds at Bourne Hall, there will also be the traditional fete and Radio St Helier will be there to provide the entertainment. Bourne Hall also welcomes dogs in the park, so this really will be a day out for the entire family. Fingers are also crossed for some of the glorious sunshine we had in 2013.
This event is made possible by the large support of staff volunteering their time and this year we are looking for the usual unwanted Christmas gifts and items we can use for raffle prizes and tombola stalls. We would also like to hear from anyone who would be interested in having a stall at the fete, we are hoping that 2015 Walk in the Park will be the biggest yet. If you do have a prize you can donate or if you are interested in having a stall then please contact Caren Dove on firstname.lastname@example.org or on 01372 735833.
