Mr Gwynne Howell OBE MBBS DipBioMech FRCS FRCS (Orth) Medical Director and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Gwynne Howell qualified from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in 1983. He subsequently joined the Royal Navy where he undertook basic surgical training, gaining his FRCS in 1990. He later became the Senior Surgeon in Gibraltar before commencing his Orthopaedic training in Portsmouth, Oxford, Edinburgh and Canada where he spent 1 year at the University of Ontario.
On completion of his training he was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Hospital Haslar at Gosport in Hampshire in 1998.
Gwynne Howell was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mayday University Hospital Croydon in 2002. He was awarded an O.B.E. later that year.
His areas of special interest include primary hip and knee arthroplasty as well as revision arthroplasty.
Mr David A Ward MBBS FRCS (Orth) FRCS (Ed) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon - Lead Clinician
David Ward qualified from Westminster Medical School in 1985 and trained in Orthopaedics in London and Surrey, as well as undertaking a hip fellowship in Berne, Switzerland. He was appointed as a consultant to Queen Mary's Roehampton in 1995 and in 1997 the unit merged with Kingston Hospital.His special interests are hip replacement surgery (particularly young patients, complex cases and hip resurfacing) and revision hip surgery.
He has a major commitment to inpatient elective surgery and virtually all his workload is lower limb joint replacement.He is a regular invited faculty member at international hip meetings. Mr Richard E Field PhD FRCS FRCS (Orth) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon - Director of Research
Following Orthopaedic training in London, Cambridge and Melbourne, Richard Field was appointed to the staff of St Helier Hospital, Carshalton, Surrey, in 1994.
He has established an Orthopaedic Research Unit at St Helier Hospital and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre, (SWLEOC) where he is Director of Research.
Richard Field is a lower limb Orthopaedic Surgeon with particular interest in Hip replacement, the management of Hip Disorders in younger adults and the design of Hip Replacements.
Mr Giles Stafford Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mr Stafford studied Medicine at Guy's and St. Thomas's Hospitals, graduating in 1999. During this time he also undertook a BSc. in Physiology, graduating with honours and being awarded the Carpenter Prize
Mr Stafford has a specific interest in young adult hip problems and the management of sports hip injuries. He teaches regularly on hip arthroscopy courses. He also has a keen research interest, publishing regularly in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at international meetings.
Throughout his career, Mr Stafford has been elected onto various representative committees and has been invited to be a Medical Assessor for the General Medical Council.

Mr Stafford is married with two children. He is a keen sportsman but has now hung up his rugby boots and swapped them for a pair of golf shoes. However, he still plays tennis for his club and other representative sides.
Mr Thomas Duncan Tennent FRCS (Orth) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Duncan Tennent qualified at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London in 1992 and undertook his registrar training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, and was subsequently appointed as a consultant at St. George's Hospital in 2003.
Duncan spent a year in America on a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship before returning to the UK to obtain further, post-fellowship experience in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Duncan's practice is entirely shoulder and elbow surgery with particular interest in arthroscopic techniques for both joints. He has a commitment to research, holding the patent for a new technique for an arthroscopic shoulder procedure.
Duncan also teaches regularly at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, convening several courses to teach arthroscopic surgery and also lecturing nationally and internationally.
Mr. Adhikari trained in orthopaedics on the North-east Thames Registrars training rotation. He worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Kings College Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham for four years before moving to St. Helier Hospital in 1992 to help set up SWLEOC.
His main interest is in Knee Surgery including joint replacements and sports injuries. He has pioneered the use of Computer Navigation and Robotics in orthopaedic surgery in the UK and has set up a training programme at SWLEOC for surgeons from the UK and abroad to learn the technique.

Mr Mark Rickman MD FRCS (Tr &Ortho) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mark qualified from Sheffield University in 1994, and subsequently trained in Orthopaedics in Oxford. He obtained an MD in limb reconstruction in 2003, and passed the intercollegiate specialty exam in 2004. He has undertaken a 12 month fellowship in Arthroplasty surgery in Australia, and a pelvic / acetabular trauma fellowship for 6 months in Bristol.
His current NHS commitments consist of orthopaedic and fracture clinics at St George's Hospital Tooting, arthroplasty lists at the new South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre in Epsom, and trauma / pelvic trauma lists at St George's Hospital.
He specialises in all aspects of lower limb surgery, with an emphasis on minimal incision arthroplasty surgery, as well as unicompartmental knee replacements and patello-femoral replacements. He is also a specialist in complex trauma, and pelvic / acetabular trauma surgery.
Mr Mitchell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St George's Hospital, London and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre.
He trained at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London, qualifying in 1991 and underwent Orthopaedic Training on the St Georges Rotation. After a year Fellowship in Vancouver in the Adult Reconstruction Unit he took up his post at St Georges in 2002.

Richard Hampton qualified at St Thomas' Hospital Medical School London University MBBS in 1989. Following this he was a House Surgeon St Thomas' Hospital, and a House Physician at the Royal United Hospital Bath. During his stay at St Mary's Hospital in 1990, Richard was an Anatomy Demonstrator. As a SHO he was in the Rotation at Northwick Park Hospital from 1991-1993 where he gained his FRCS (Eng) in 1993 and in the same year did Neurosurgery as an SHO Queens Square, following which he became a Senior Orthopaedic SHO at Kingston Hospital & Northwick Park Hospital from 1994 to 1995.

Mr Eyiyemi O Pearse MA (Oxon) FRCS (Orth) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mr Eyiyemi (Yemi) Pearse graduated from Oriel College Oxford in 1995 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree and an honours degree in Physiological Sciences. He was an Orthopaedic Specialist Registrar on the South West Thames rotation. He undertook a fellowship at the Reading Shoulder Unit specialising in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and shoulder arthroplasty. He also has an interest in arthroscopic knee surgery and undertook a fellowship at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre.

Mr Gilbert T Railton MBBch, FRCS (Wales) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Gil Railton qualified in 1977 from the Welsh national school of medicine Cardiff and has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Kingston Hospital since 1990. His Orthopaedic training was at the Royal London Hospital in whitechapel.
He is experienced in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee and performs almost two hundred replacements a year.

Christian Kinmont qualified from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in 1989 and subsequently undertook specialist orthopaedic training in the South West Thames region. Additionally, he undertook a knee research fellowship at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and having passed the FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedic) examination in 2001 undertook a further knee and sports surgery fellowship at La Trobe University, Melbourne.

Jason Millington trained at UCL Medical School and qualified in 1997. Following his basic surgical training he worked for Sarah Muirhead-Allwood at the London Hip Unit before undertaking his specialist orthopaedic training on the Wessex rotation. He did his fellowship training in revision hip arthroplasty surgery at Southampton University Hospital.

Mr Constant Busch Consultant Orthoapedic Surgeon
Mr Busch attended Duke University in North Carolina, USA before obtaining his medical degree at St Thomas’s Hospital, London in 1991.
He trained in general orthopaedics in the South West Thames Region and obtained his certificate of completion specialist training in August 2003.
He completed a hip and knee reconstruction fellowship at the London Health Sciences Hospital in London, Ontario, Canada, and was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Trust in August 2004.

Mr F Dinah FRCS(Tr&Ortho) qualified from the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals in 1996. His postgraduate orthopaedic training was in the South West Thames region of London. During this time, he published several articles in the orthopaedic literature, and studied for the award of the Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine (UK). He also undertook a 12-month research fellowship in orthopaedic biomechanics and bioengineering at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore MD, USA. After a year as a specialist knee fellow in the UK, during which he was also exposed to primary hip replacement surgery, he took up a locum Orthopaedic Consultant post in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK, in 2009. He was then appointed to a substantive consultant post at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust in 2010.
His NHS practice involves a general orthopaedic trauma service (St Helier Hospital) as well as a specialist lower limb elective service (Epsom General Hospital and SWLEOC). He was appointed as a consultant to St. George’s Hospital in April 2010.

Giles Heilpern studied medicine at Pembroke College, Cambridge and Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals qualifying in 1999. He completed a 3 year basic surgical rotation at Guy’s, Kingston and Atkinson Morley’s Hospitals.
