Following feedback from our patients’ and analysis of the evidence from our patients’ reported outcome measures, it has emerged that some patients do not do as well as they had expected after having knee replacement surgery. Patients have reported that they do not get back to the level of activity they had hoped for and some have on-going pain and stiffness. The initial community and out-patient physiotherapy usually stops at the point where the patients have achieved a good range of movement and are no longer using walking aids. However, this leaves a gap between being functionally independent and really getting the best from the new joint. In order to address this, we have started to run two activity classes, one based in Epsom and one based in Chessington. These classes are run by physiotherapists, but do not include standard physiotherapy exercises. They are general activity classes which encourage and develop greater mobility of all kinds. The classes are available to all SWLEOC patients, provided they have completed their out-patient physiotherapy and been discharged. We ask for a voluntary contribution to meet the costs of hiring the venues. If you would like further information or would like to book a place in one of the classes, please contact the Physiotherapy Administrator between 9:30 – 12PM on 01372 735853. |
