Alex Whitten


General Manager

Having completed a 2 year Medical Secretarial Diploma Course at New College Durham Alex started her career in 1989 as a medical secretary in Sunderland General Hospital working with a team of Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She then went on to work for the prestigious Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital in Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia as a Personal Assistant to a Colonel in the estates and facilities Department, working in a multicultural environment for almost 6 years.

Alex returned to the United Kingdom, leafy Surrey, commencing a new phase of her career with the opportunity to work for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.  She worked in various roles from scheduling through to Service Management where she gained a wealth of knowledge and experience leading teams in the successful delivery of key performance targets and pivotal projects within Endoscopy, Surgery and Critical Care whilst working closely with Consultants to develop their services.  In 2006-2007 she successfully completed a City & Guilds Graduateship and CIPFA accredited Certificate in Resource Management.

​In 2012 Alex joined the SWLEOC Team working in a Business Management role where she gained further business and financial skills maintaining and improving operational efficiencies within the Centre before being appointed in January 2017 as General Manager.
